Our history

ServU Federal Credit Union was established on March 15, 1956, by employees of the Corning City School District. Initially named "Corning Teachers Credit Union," it served only teachers and staff from the Corning School District.

In 1974, the credit union expanded to include all schools in Steuben County, except for Hornell and Arkport. On June 1, 1977, the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) approved a name change to Steuben Educators Federal Credit Union. In 1979, the credit union moved into its first permanent location at 77 Victory Highway in Painted Post, NY. Two years later, it transitioned from an educational charter to a multi-occupational charter, which allowed further expansion. In April 1987, a merger with Maple City Health Care Credit Union facilitated the establishment of a Hornell branch at 174 Main Street. In 1991, this branch relocated to 36 Genesee Street and later to its current location at 10 Taylor Street.

Further growth came in July 1989 with the merger of Old Rheims Federal Credit Union, located at Taylor Wine Company in Hammondsport, NY. On April 1, 1991, operations moved to a new facility at 7215 State Route 54 in Bath, NY.

In July 1993, Steuben Educators Federal Credit Union expanded again by merging with Keuka-Seneca Federal Credit Union, establishing a presence in Yates and Schuyler Counties. On January 6, 1996, the Dundee branch moved from Main Street to a newly constructed facility at 46 Millard Street, off Route 14A.

Growth brings a name change

The year 2000 marked the construction of a new administrative office at 9823 Science Center Drive in Painted Post, NY. In June 2002, Hornell and Arkport School Districts were incorporated into the charter following a merger with Hornell School Employees Credit Union.

On May 13, 2004, the NCUA approved a name change to ServU Federal Credit Union. Further expansion took place on December 1, 2008, when Alfred Allegany Educational Employee’s Credit Union, located at Pioneer Center, Alfred State College, merged with ServU FCU. A new Alfred branch was built at 180 North Main Street, opening on October 12, 2010.
